The non-lucrative residence visa is the most preferred for most expats who find Spain a better destination since it is not necessary to invest in Spain to obtain it. However, the applicants must prove their economic means to live in Spain for at least one year without working.


After the initial year of residency in Spain, its possible to renew the visa every 2×2 years, making a total of 5 years. Later, it is possible to apply to a Spain’s permanent residence. Besides, the Spain’s non-lucrative residence visa allows you to bring your family members as you can have enough money to sustain them.

Financial means


To prove that you have enough funds to sustain yourself in Spain, IPREM is an indicator to determine the minimum income for an individual annually.


The non-lucrative visa Spain applicants must have at least 400% of the IPREM value in their bank account for the first year. Currently, the 400% IPREM value per month for 2022 is €2.316,08. This gives an IPREM value of €27.792,96 (minimum) per year.
Having 400% of the amount means that your bank account must have €27.792,96 or more if you include your family members. An additional €6,948.24 is required yearly for each additional family member under the Spanish non lucrative visa.

Other important requirements


Furthermore, the visa applicants must have a police clearance certificate with proper translations into Spanish by a sworn translator to show their lack of criminal records and of the countries where the applicants have resided for the last 5 years.

The health insurance must be one year or longer and must be issued by a private insurance company operating in the Spanish territories. The insurance policy should not have co-payments.
